Technical BackgroundInsect repellants are useful for preventing insects frombiting the skin, especially mosquitoes. Most of the knowninsect repellents that are topically applied to deter mosquitoesfrom biting consist of chemical compositions consisting of:N, N—dietltyl toluamide (DEET), N, N—diethyl benzamide,dimethyl phytate, ethyl bexanediol, indalone. di-n-propyl-isocinchoronate, bicycloheptene dicarboxide, tetrahydrofuraldehyde, among others. DEBT, the most popular, is toxic2025cally (into the blood stream) uses a topical or transdemial“patch,” wherein the thianline is contained within a smlcturethat is to he affixed to the skin. In such a structure, thethiamine is contained in a layer, or “reservoir,” underlying anupper backing layer.
